The Last Five Years

Seating for this production is limited so please be sure to reserve your seats today by emailing Robert Brock at brockr@lindsey.edu.

The Last Five Years is a unique and intimate musical that revolves around the relationship of two New Yorkers. The story itself is told in two directions by the two characters. Cathy works through the relationship backwards as if running through her memories from breakup to first kiss. Jamie tells the story from the beginning in chronological order. The characters meet only once throughout the play during their wedding.

Don’t let this format fool you, though. This play provides a window into the highs and the lows of Cathy and Jamie’s story. Jason Robert Brown himself said that “Marriage is freighted with a lot of meanings—it’s supposed to be a perfect love, the foundation of a family, a support system, a business partnership.” The struggle that occurs in The Last Five Years is just that – the struggle to make their love last.
